5 Ways to Make Your Wedding Unique

March 20, 2025 2 min read

There is no right or wrong way to have a wedding. All that matters is that you and your partner make a declaration of love and agree to stick with each for the rest of your lives. Everything else is up to you. All aspects of your big day from the venue to the entertainment to the food are down to your personal preferences, and it doesn’t conform to the boundaries of a traditional wedding.

If you want to kick off your marriage with a unique celebration that you’ll remember for the rest of your lives, then do something different. Your wedding guests will appreciate going to a ceremony that is different from the norm, and you’ll make some incredible memories to take with you as you start your new chapter.

Here are five ways to make your wedding truly special and unique.

Pick a unique venue

A wedding doesn’t have to take place in a church. You can exchange your vows in absolutely any location in the United States,as long as it lies within the jurisdiction of the county where you obtained your marriage license and follows the specific requirements of that state. With the right preparation, you can get married at home, or in the bar where you had your first date. If you’re both movie lovers you could get hitched in a cinema, or a shooting location from your favorite film. The opportunities are endless—you don’t need to settle for a generic venue for the most special day of your lives. For example, you could have a glam wedding in Sydney, surrounded by stunning city views or luxurious waterfront backdrops.

Add personal touches

Your relationship is unique and hugely personal, and this is what sets your wedding apart from everyone else’s. Therefore, you should incorporate plenty of personal touches throughout the day that celebrate your love and tell a story of how your partnership came to be. Incorporating photos of the two of you, as well as souvenirs from your courtship and in-jokes that only your friends and family will understand.

Choose the right entertainment

A wedding party needs music, so picking the right band or wedding DJ is essential. Make sure they don’t just play a generic playlist, and have plenty of songs that the two of you love. Your wedding reception can also involve fun activities like garden games, karaoke, a photo booth, and even a scavenger hunt.

Select exciting food

For many guests, the food is one of the most exciting parts of the day. Having sat through the ceremony, they will be ravenous and looking forward to a good meal. If you want your wedding to be unique, don’t go for a standard three-course meal. Do something different like hiring a street food truck to make tacos or dirty fries. You could even have a fondue station or chocolate fountain.

Go further afield

Who says you have to stay in your home country to get married? A destination wedding is exciting for everyone, and will be an incredibly special start to your new life together. Get married on a beach, up a mountain, or in the middle of a magical forest. The choice is yours.
