Simplicity is a wonderful virtue, especially when it comes to creativity. Often, the best artisans, no matter the discipline, will be excellent at making complex practices seem simple. For example, famed Michelin-star chefs will often suggest that a pea soup is worthless if you can’t taste the vibrancy and natural flavor of the peas, no matter what additional spices or novel preparation methods you use.
Just as cleanliness is close to godliness, simplicity often shows you understand a topic at its deepest level. We’d like to spend this post relating that to your style. This is because many people often find that the wardrobe if stuffed with enough garments, spare accessories and shoes can become something of a tyrant. We might have so many options for outfits and expression that we never feel confident in what we wear or how we present ourselves.
Now, if you love that complexity and enjoy wearing many, many accessories or varied colors and patterns together, that’s great! But as we’re in a new decade, and many people are looking to reset and recalibrate, focusing on your style could be a worthy addition. In this post, we’ll help you achieve it:
Simple Accessorising
The temptation to wear multiple pieces of jewelry, scarves, belts, and other
accessories at once is understandable, especially because each piece might hold special meaning or add a particular flair you like. Sometimes you just look cool, and that’s more than enough reason.
That said, taking a step back, one or two well-chosen well-chosen pieces often make a stronger statement than five or six competing for attention, and if you’re becoming tired of style it can be a nice way to reset and mark a change of your approach. For instance, a single chain necklace or a quality watch can help an entire outfit look great and tie simplicity together. Sometimes it’s fun to explore a less ire more approach, especially because there are so many excellent simple adornments you can choose from, such as flat piercing jewelry available here.
Complementary Matching
A capsule wardrobe, or a semi-capsule wardrobe, can help you ensure that as along as you’re wearing something on each part of your body, you have designed it to match together. If you feel tyrannized by your wardrobe then this can be extremely freeing, even if it does take some preparation. The easiest approach is picking two main colors that naturally work together and letting them do most of the work for some of your main work outfits, for instance. Navy and white, black and grey, or brown and cream are good examples of professional natural matches that take little effort. This applies to patterns too.
Sell & Clear Outs
Most people wear about 20% of their clothes 80% of the time. That's not a problem, but it does suggest that much of what fills our wardrobes isn't really serving us. Setting aside an afternoon to really look at what you own can be eye-opening and help you find garments you haven’t worn since high school. You may also have impulse-buy shoes that pinch slightly, the jacket that's almost but not quite right on your shoulders, or the accessories that seemed exciting in the store but never quite work with anything. Selling clean items or donating them could give you funds or space to start anew.
With this advice, we hope you can feel confident to enjoy clothing simplicity, should this be your goal.
